2010 AUSTIN POWWOW HEAD STAFF PROFILES:


TIM TALL CHIEF;
MASTER OF CEREMONIES:


Tim Tall Chief is from the Greyhorse District of the Osage Nation. He is the Deputy Commissioner of Administrative Services at the Oklahoma State Department of Health. He is also the CEO of Outdoor Adventures Unlimited, Inc., an adventure based program serving the training needs of corporations, tribes and non profits throughtout the U.S.A. Tim also serves on a variety of other boards and committees that concerns with American Indians health in Oklahoma. Tim has been the Master of Ceremonies for the Austin Powwow from the very beginning. His knowledge, wit and humor brings the flavor into the dance arena. We are honored to have Mr. Tall Chief on board with us again this year.


BILL TAKES HORSE;
ARENA DIRECTOR:

Bill Takes Horse is from the Apaalookee [Crow] and the Chippewa Tribes. His Indian name is Iichiikaashe Xaxxa, which means "Spotted Elk" in the Crow Language. Bill was born and raised on The Crow Reservation in Montana. Bill has been the Chairperson of Colbert Public Schools' Title IX Indian Education Program and the Johnson-O'Malley Programs for 10 years. He also enjoys acting, having recently finished starring in "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest at the Ardmore Oklahoma Little Theatre. Originally from Crow Agency, Montana, Bill resides in Colbert Oklahoma with his wife and children. Bill has been the Arena Director for the Austin Powwow from the very beginning. His knowledge, skills and experience brings the dance into harmony. We are honored to have Mr. Takes Horse on board with us again this year.


EDWARD C. KETCHER;
HEAD SOUTHERN JUDGE:

Ed is a full-blooded Cherokee from Oklahoma. He and his wife currently lives in Beaumont, Texas. Ed is a member of The Texas Kiowa-Tia Piah Society in Crowley, Texas. He and his family participate in Stomp Dances in Oklahoma as to continue to preserve his native language, traditions and culture. Ed has actively served in various staff positions including, Head Dancer, Arena Director, and Head Judge in powwow arenas throughout Indian Country. Ed has been part of the Head Staff for the Austin Powwow for many years. We are honored to have Mr. Ketcher on board with us again this year.

HEAD NORTHERN JUDGE:

Zack is from the Potowatomi Tribe.

COLOR GUARDS;
CHEROKEE NATION WARRIORS SOCIETY:

Cherokee Nation Warriors Society Color Guard & Color Guard for the Cherokee Nation
will begin the Grand Entry at the 2010 Austin Powwow.

A society of Cherokee Nation tribal members who are also military veterans, and who were honorably discharged from military service. The society is based in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and is administered by the Cherokee Nation Office of Veterans Affairs. Most of the society members are also members of the Tiah Piah Black War Shield Gourd Society and participate in the Gourd Dance.

Membership in this society is open to all veterans of the Cherokee Nation of any branch of military service. The Cherokee Nation Warriors Society members and those veterans who gave their lives in military service have bricks with their names inscribed paving the Cherokee Nation Warriors Memorial and Pavalion located at the Cherokee Nation Headquarters in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The memorial is dedicated to all Cherokee Citizens and their families who served in the United States Military and to those who gave their lives in defense of the United States and the Cherokee
