About Our Organization:

Great Promise for American Indians, Inc.

Great Promise for American Indians, Inc.

is a 501©3 nonprofit organization whose mission
is to educate about Native American culture.

Great Promise for American Indians is the sponsor of Red Vocies,
a series of programs on subjects of concern to Native Americans.

Our group proudly funds several Educational Programs in area schools
during the year. Nationally renowned Native American artists come to
our schools and teach children about their Native culture and craft.
We are also proud to help and support the University of Texas Powwow,
hosted by the Longhorn American Indian Council.

Great Promise for American Indians is the parent organization of
The Annual Austin Powwow and American Indian Heritage Festival,
held in the City of Sunset Valley. It is the primary event for
our group to reach out to all our communities.

Also affiliated with Great Promise is the CTFNEC Native American
Parents Committees, composed of groups of students, parents and
educators working to help American Indian students in the Central
Texas area. The group is officially recognized by the Austin Independent
School District and works closely with a support group of community
volunteers to design programs that help young people.

Foremost of these programs is the Annual Austin Powwow and
American Indian Heritage Festival held in the City of Sunset Valley.

The Powwow and Heritage Festival Committee, itself a volunteer
group, works year round to plan this free gift to the Central
Texas communities and to all our guests and visitors.

It is an educational opportunity for schools, service organizations,
and all individuals who desire to learn more about the American Indian
cultures, traditions, and way of life both traditional and contemporary.

Our group is small, comprised of only about three dozen American Indian
and non American Indian volunteers. We try our best to honor the many
request that we receive from people wanting us to speak or perform for
their events. If you want to include us in your events or programs,
please click HERE for more information.

Without the support of the community, and the many community volunteers
on the day of the Powwow, we would not be able to host this valuable
cultural festival.

It is important to know that all the efforts that go into the Annual
Powwow and Heritage Festival are to benefit students in Central Texas.
The group awards educational grants annually to graduating seniours.

For each of the last few years over 50,000 spectators have come to
experience our Powwow. We think we might just be the largest school
district's cultural event and the largest one-day powwow, not only
in this community, but in the nation.

In order to put on this nationally recognized event, it takes
thousands of dollars to bring in the hundreds of American Indians
from Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, Arizona and as far
away as North and South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming and Canada.

The group provides lodging, honorariums to all our head staff,
our educational presenters and prize money to all our contest
dancers carrying on the traditions of the American Indian Powwow
circle. We must also honor all the participants who travel
hundreds of miles to be at our event by feeding them both lunch
and supper, a very important tradition.

We are very fortunate to have the volunteers efforts
of the staff at: Chez Nous Restaurant,
who provides and serves our American Indian Guests
with delicious and nutritious meals.

And this is only a portion of our logistical costs!
